What Drives the Gender Pay Gap in Iceland.

Introduction

Across much of the world, women earn less than Men, and women are getting more concerned and increasingly assertive against this injustice. I read in Forbes Advisor that, on average, women earn 77 cents for every dollar men earn. It will take 257 years to close the global gender pay gap.

The strike, known as the “Women’s Day Off” or “Kvennafrí” in Icelandic, was organized to raise awareness about the “systemic” wage discrimination and gender-based violence faced by women in Iceland. It was attended by Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir and her staff in a show of solidarity.

However, other factors that can explain different levels of income between Men and Women, such as working hours, employment, industries, and education level, should be considered.

Iceland is considered one of the most equal countries in the world. For 14 years in a row, Iceland has been ranked the best nation for gender equality by the World Economic Forum (WEP), which said the country has closed 91.2% of the gender gap. I decided to look at the inequality between Men and Women in Iceland. And the conclusion is;
