The U.S-China trade war, the threat of tariffs on Europe and the U.S decision to unilaterally withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal should cause Europe to reassess its geopolitical priorities as well as its approach to diplomacy. The mutual decision to exit New Start, a nuclear arms reduction treaty between the U.S. and Russia should cause a rethink of Nato’s approach away from repelling towards one that incentivizes dialogue with Russia. Quite simply, more of the same is unlikely to lead different Results as concerns Russia.
